Hojai Girls’ College

Unpolluted with the din & bustle of the town, Hojai Girls’ College is located in a spacious compound of about two acress of land on the southern edge of Hojai Town. It is the lone institution that caters to the need for higher education for women in the southern part of Nagaon District and the entire parts of karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao District, where the need of such a female institution was long over due.

Women occupy the pivotal position in the society. The level of civilization of a society can be measured by the status of its women. The society whose women are empowered and respected is regarded as superior. So when the public in and around Hojai keenly felt the need of a Girls’ College, some enthusiastic educationists of the area came forward with the above sighted vision to set up one such college. It was under the paternal care and stewardship of Dr. Ardhendu kumar Dey, the then Minister for Food & Civil Supplies, Govt. of Assam and the patronage of some eminent personalities, a Sponsoring Body for establishing the college was formed in the year 1991. The effective and persistent effort of A.K. Dey, in co-operation with the people of Hojai Minister Late Hiteswar Saikia’s handsome financial support for the college, made all dreams come true. The College is now permanently affiliated to Gauhati University with Govt. Concurrence. The Govt. of Assam has provincialised this college w.e.f. January, 2013.
